Word will be able to read anything made in Works, they are compatible
formats to the documents. As for the actual transfer of files, the
best choice would be if both machine have a network port, use a
crossover cable (around $10.00 at any computer store) and set up file
sharing in the XP machine. Then in the windows 98 machine, map the XP
drives to it and copy any and all file to your heart's content. The
favorites are just a directory in the user's folders that you can
copy to you new machine favorites folder.

I know it can sound a bit intimidating, but it is really not that hard
to do. If you don't have network ports on both machine I suggest you
get a couple of network cards locally or even on the web. They can be
had for as little a $5-$10 a piece and are very easy to install.
