I know that you do not need a cable card to receive the over the air
channels via cable since the cable companies are not allowed to encrypt
those channels.
I don't know of any ATSC/QAM MCE compatible cards at this time but I
suspect that when they are available that some of them will also support a
cable card to cover a broader market.
I have had a Motorola 6412 since before they had its dual tuner software
available so I am totally aware of its capabilities and have lived through
its fixing its problems being able to successfully process and record 2 HDTV
channels at the same time.
I also monitor many of the AVS Forum forums daily.
Yes, I should have said it MAY be a hardware restriction and not that it IS
a hardware restriction.
