    there is a similar discusssion thread in which somebody provided a
    workaround /solution on the link below - I have actually tested it myself
    but

    the fundimental problem is a design flaw in the Media Center Extenders, they
    don't support AC3 (Dolby Digital) and you can't add additional Codecs to the
    devices..
    the link above goes into details.. I also believe (in another thread)
    somebody was complaining that the MCX's wouldn't playback normal HBO,
    Showtime or other
    people should be able to playback DVD's over the extenders .. (either ripped
    to your HD, or from your original DVD drive)

    Microsoft I think it admits it sort of dropped the ball on this .. see the
    posting below
