I did as HP had suggested (before I found a working fix) and restored my pc
back to the way it was when I purchased it. I then downloaded and installed
all of the HP updates for my system and then I downloaded and installed all
of the critical updates and driver updates from Windows Update (including
SP2).

After I did all these things, I inserted the 2005 update disc into my
DVD-Rom and then closed the "this system is not eligible window".

Next, I right-clicked on the START button and selected EXPLORE (I'm making
these instructions detailed in case someone without pc experience wants to
do this as well). I then clicked on the HP_MCE_2005_UPGRADE disc so that I
could see it's contents. I double-clicked on the I386 directory and then I
double-clicked on the file, "WINNT32.EXE" and the install went smoothly from
there.

I've been watching TV and playing around with the settings, etc. so far and
everything seems fine.
