Hi Barb
To avoid confusion and simplify matters, if we leave the internet out of the
equation, and assume all I need to do is connect my MCE PC to my Xbox for
the sole purpose of transferring media, I'm sure mine is a supported config,
i.e.:
PC <--ethernet cable--> AP <--wifi--> WGA <--ethernet cable--> Xbox
My original config when I used the Media Center Extender Linksys set-top-box
was:
PC <--ethernet cable--> AP <--wifi--> MCX Box
That worked just fine. The settings are identical. I tried it again and it
still works fine. So, the problem must be with the WGA or Xbox settings. I
need some guidance. Step by step instructions would be really helpful :)
If I set my PC as follows, I can ping my AP from my PC:
IP: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.1.1
These mirror the settings in the AP's config.
However I can NOT ping my WGA from my PC. 'Request timed out' every time.
If I connect the WGA directly to my laptop, I CAN ping the WGA, and access
its setup via the web at 192.168.1.250.
I have gone to the Xbox config and the Xbox sees my wireless network SSID
and successfully connects, but only in Ad-Hoc not Infrastructure mode.
