You need to boot your computer from the Windows XP CD and let setup begin. You will be prompted to Repair the XP installation (Press R). Do so. This takes you to Recovery Console. You will be prompted to enter the Administrator password for the system. Enter the password you gave the Administrator account during setup. If in doubt, just leave the password blank.
Once in Recovery Console, you'll be at a C:\> prompt. Enter the following command:
COPY C:\Windows\System32\USERINIT.EXE C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe
Then reboot the computer and log in normally. Once you're logged on, click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
In the right pane locate the value named Userinit. Double click this value and change it to read:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,
Including the command at the end. You can now go to the Windows\System32 folder and delete the file WSAUPDATER.EXE
