can you do work on it and watch tv?

hi. Im thinking about getting a computer with the media center on it. I
didnt see any good examples of it being used as a computer (not just a
tivo/mp3 player) on the website. Could i do something like work on a word
document while watching tv? How do computer applications look on a tv... i
have a lcd projection tv 40'. would that be useable as a monitor? Can you
play PC games on your tv?

Thanks... just trying to figure out what this media center thing is all about
