Question on MMC

I started to research this product two days ago and I got very excited about
its potential. I wanted something where I could keep my PC out of the living
room (the extenders will let me do that) and I had a product that could
record HD. I can currently record hd on my cable box, but it has a single
tuner. I also thought it would be great to combine these great features with
the ability to stream music and videos and pictures off of my PC. I wanted
this product very badly. In the course of my study, I read something that
chilled my blood. I could not record off of my hd cable box. OTA is not an
option in my area, its either satellite or cable. Is there any plans in the
forseeable future to fix this? This was the killer app until I found this
out. Is there a workaround that isn't to rididculous? Thanks for your time
