My puter automatically searches MS site for updates when I'm online, then
notifies me that I have updates to install. I said "OK" this last time, and
the updates did take awhile, longer than normal, but not really a very long
time (on dial-up). Anyways, ever since, I cannot log onto AOL....for those
of you familiar with AOL, the modem dials but I get disconnected at step 4-5.
Anyways, since then, I have deleted all versions of AOL from my computer and
also re-installed XP Media Center Edition. Then, I attempted to re-install
AOL, but still cannot log on.
Another question, since re-installing XP, I wonder why data files are gone,
if the programs still exist, why would the data files be missing, and can I
get them back? I am mostly worried about my document files in MS Word.
And, still, I cannot fully complete the log on to AOL on that computer.
Now, I did go to check "About Windows", and see that I only have SP 1 on the
puter, so SP 2 is not the issue here, but I'm not sure what is.
I thought that re-installing WIN XP and reinstalling AOL would eliminate
whatever happened in that automatice DL, and I would be able to get online.
Any ideas what is happening here?
Also, I did order the free CD for Service Pack 2. If I install that when I
get it, will I be able to log online, or is SP2 still causing lots of
problems?
HELP!
