There are a number of shows on my cable system (Comcast) that the audio
and video are out of sync already. A straight connection to a regular TV
shows this problem. You may want to check this on your own system first. WRT
MCE viewing, I have noticed that if the channel doesn't tune in immediately,
there may be some audio and video skew. The first thing I try to do is 'jump
back' and see if the situation improves. If doing this 2 or 3 times doesn't
improve things, I also try 'channel up' followed by 'channel down'. This
will force the channel to retune and usually fixes the problem for me. This
works on both of the HP systems I use.
You should also verify that you do not have any background processes
'stealing' cycles while you are running live TV. Check your CPU load while
you are watching. If the CPU is more than 50% busy you may have sync issues.
A fragmented disk could also cause problems. Try running the disk
defragmenter and at least run the analysis to see if the disk needs to be
defragmented.
