Movie Maker does not work with very many MPEG-2 decoders,
but IIRC, it does work with the Ligos decoder, which I
"think" was included with the orginal OEM version of
MyDVD that was bundled with the 873n.

I uninstalled that software quite a while ago, so I
am no longer able to edit MPEG-2 video in MM now myself.

to find a way to edit/convert the dvr-ms files to a format I could burn to VCD, etc. After much work--with lots of help by reading
the posts of this group--I was able to find a process that worked for exactly what I needed. But...
>

the operating system to its original state. At first this was no problem--it fixed everything and the system was running much
smoother. As I started to need to convert dvr-ms files again, I remembered all I went through to make that possible back in the
beginning of my Media Center days. With no problem I have been able to partially do what I was able to do before. For sake of
describing my problem fully, let me outline that for you.

streams to mpa and m2v files.

> Sounds good so far, right? Well... almost. Here's where the problem comes in. In the past, occasionally the m2v file would not
properly convert with TMPGEnc. I had come to the conclusion that this was due to some minor corruption in the original dvr-ms file.
So, if this was the case with any given file, I would have to take extra steps after the above steps:
>
> I would take the m2v file and pull it into Windows Movie Maker. WMM, however, will not recognize the m2v extension--but if I
renamed the extension to mpg, it would recognize it. I would also pull in the mpa file, then add both the audio and video streams
to the timeline. If you would play the timeline as is, the a/v would be slightly out of sync. So I would manually adjust this
along the timline until I got a perfectly in sync file. Then I would export the file from there to do whatever I needed to do with
it.

> So here's my problem: Now WMM won't recongize the m2v (renamed to mpg) files. This seems to be a codec problem. But I have no
idea what codec allowed me to do this before. I've installed several codecs, trying to figure out what it could have been, and I
have had no success. Additoinally--and I'm not sure if this is related, but it seems as if it could be--when I go to play a SVCD
compliant mpg file in Windows Media Player, the status message flashes, "Sending request for codec... error downloading codec". But
then proceeds to play the file anyway (albiet with a an exclamation error next to the file name saying, "One or more codecs required
to open this content could not be found." Additioanlly, before restoring my OS, files with extension m2v were always associated
with Meida Player, and would play with no problem. Now the files have no association and will not play in Media Player. Maybe
these are related issues? I am unsure.

> I appologize for the lenghty message. But I am going crazy here trying to figure out how to solve this very annoying
problem--even more annoying b/c of the fact that I was able to use my files in this way for a year or more before I had to restore
my OS. If anyone can provide any ideas or input, I would greatly appreciate it.
