I have the same problem with my HP 873n with eMuzed
Maui. I have experienced it with and without running
Outlook. Putting the system in suspend and waking up
will also restore sound. That or restart is the only way
to recover sound. An earlier post in this forum
suggested removing all the "sound video and game
controllers" that have an "uninstall" right-click option
in device manager. I did this, seemed to help, but the
problem has recurred one time after about a month of
correct operation.
