No, if you are doing encoding, it could take a while. What happens is, the
software needs to take the video from the current format and change it into
another format more suitable for DVDs. This can take some time (for
perspective, to convert a 20 minute video from DVR-MS to WMV takes
approximately 30 minutes on my P4-2.66ghz machine). DVR-MS -> DVD should be
a litter faster than that, but if you are writing a DVD with a hour of
content, it is quite reasonable to have it take 45 minutes.
The "8x" part of your DVD burner just referrs to how fast the disk spins and
how fast it can write to the disk. This will not affect transcoding or
multiplexing at all (those are regulated by mainly the processor).
