Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them - including posting in the XP Setup and Deployment area (seems the most appropriate, but I originally posted here since there were more Qs and As related to brokem files and inabilities to get TV and Guide downloads working (bulk of the problems I have encountered,except for the backup program - but they may all stem fom the same cause (rights on read only or hidden files that need Admin rights to change.)
HD shouldn't be the problem in this case, since its brnad new, but I'll check for bad spots, anyhow. (I may also try to boot from the backup copy on the external disk which was made before the rights went south, but I'm not sure that will work - but I guess it's worth a try.)
