TV's aren't designed to display the output from a PC in most cases, that
said the better quality connection you use the better the image
Worst
- Composite (this is what you're currently using)
- S-Video
- Component (three cables - red, green & blue)
- DVI (single cable, found on most new HDTVs)
Best
On a regular TV the picture in computer terms is 640x480 with a 60Hz
interlaced refresh rate (that means that although the display is updated 60
times a second, only half the lines are used at once, i.e. you get half the
picture and then the other half - that's the flicker you seen on non HDTVs).
The Media Center UI is designed to look better than the Windows desktop on a
PC. I have a system at home connected via S-video to a 46" display and
while the desktop doesn't look very good, the Media Center UI looks fine.
However my other system connected via DVI looks far superior.

I'm totally lost on why connected via the S-Video out but using the conversion plug to just the yellow line in the to the TV my Windows Desktop is poor in picture quality. No I don't have a HDTV. > > Now I'm looking to buy a new WideScreen HDTV. I don't want Plasma. Can anyone explain to me the limiting factors in why my TV display won't display a computer desktop as sharp? Do I need a HDTV? Does S-Video (a true connection to both ends via a proper cable) transmit better or worse than a TV that could use the DVI? Please I'm not a TV rocket scientist but I'm quite computer literate. Any and all help is appreciated and feel free to email me.
