If what you are trying to do is a repair install, the recovery console
won't help. If you set no administrator password when you installed XP,
it may still be blank so you could try that.
If you truly want to do a repair install, choose Install at the first
prompt. You will later be prompted to repair the existing installation or
do a new install. At that point you can choose to do a repair install.
I think your best bet might be to use system restore to restore your
machine to a state from before the registry corruption occurred. Can you
boot into Safe Mode? If so, try a system restore from there. This
