I resolved myself to the fact that I will have acceptable
video quality when a HDef input card becomes avaliable.
I did find something that helped: A Hughes HTLHD Sat
reciver. Amazing picture quality. Improved HD, Digital
and local digital quality. Spent 50.00 on the best S
video cable I could find, and with my Sony Wega
widescreen "tube" the video from the 901X is OK. I feel
like you, pissed at Gateway for false advertising, but
the damn thing is so neat. I was looking for a computer
to surf the web and a Tivo. I have both and more at
about the same price. I am keeping it and have committed
myself to prod Gateway to get it right.

>OY! Am I glad I found this group! I thought I was the
only one with this problem with the Gateway 901X and my
Sony 27" Trinitron. Keep calling Gateway until you find a
knowledgable tech support person. I'm still trying to
decide whether to return the system or not. It was
blatantly misrepresented, but I'm trying to make the most
of it and feel blinded by calibrating colors and
brightness and all, as well as reading here. I beefed
enough, that Gateway said they would not charge me the
restock fee and sent prepaid return labels to return it
and the router, and adaptor, and the Bose sound system,
and other accessories.
>SO I've just found the calibration wizard to get a good
picture from my tv isn't the best. I'll play with it some
more. It's a great concept that I sure hope improves with
upgraded software. Although, it comes up nicely on my 18"
LCD monitor from another computer, except some of the
Tivo'ed shows. I guess I'll wait to be able to buy a HD
tv. Will that solve the problem--$3,000 for the 30"
Gateway wide screen that it's displayed with?
>Is anyone else blinded by trying to calibrate colors
with the built in wizard? That didn't work so well here,
so I'm trying to calibrate it by watching my tv, with my
Sony remote and the display settings for it. I suppose
watching live news and basing it on skin tones and colors
of clothes of anchor people would be best...or does
anyone have any other ideas? Perhaps the test
pattern...lol.
>And I suppose I have to connect 901X to tv antennae way
up on roof to get an FM signal? I live in cornfield and
cow patty country.
