A note to the MVPs, developers, or QA techs who are lurking in the forum.
Please note the following as a bug so that it can be looked at.
ISSUE: Sound not available in some TV recordings.
DESCRIPTION: At seemingly random intervals, the recorded TV programs will
lose the audio componenet. When this happens, it generally continues
recording for every program thereafter. The file itself is without audio,
all other audio on the system works fine. This usually requires a reboot to
correct, sometimes self-corrects (I will assume that this corrected itself
after waking from a standby event).
In MCE v1, this ocurred after using another capture device such as a webcam
and external microphone. I assumed then that the capture settings for the
windows machine were manually redirected to use the microphone and not the
tuner card to capture audio. This is an unverified assumption, but at the
time this was enough to point to "software" as the issue and not tuner card
failure.
In MCE 2004, this occurs less frequently and I have not been using my webcam
since install. So, the cutting out of sound seems much more random now.
SYSTEM: HP 873n stock hardware running MCE 2004 and all windows updates.
Emuzeed tuner, creative audigy soundcard.
COMMENTARY: This is an adoption issue in our household. We assume
(specifically my wife assumes) that our important shows are being taken care
of by MCE. When we come down and find out an entire night of primetime TV
was recorded without sound, that faith is shaken.
