You can try that. I would backup the message store first and the registry
key. One of the issues will be that the folder names are stored in
folders.dbx and not the registry, so with the rules you may have to
individually respecify the destination folders, but otherwise that may work
fine. Registry corruption is not something I understand well, and it could
be the entire key has issues.

Thanks Steve and Bruce,
Steve, what would you think about exporting the whole 5.0 subkey under
Identities\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express, changing just the 1 GUID
found
in that key StoreRoot (none found lower) and after deleting the 5.0
subkey
in the new Identity, merging the whole branch back into it. That way the
blocked senders, signatures and rules would be picked up in the repair?
Have
you all had a look at Windows Live Mail to see if it has Message Stores,
Adress Book, and reg entries all kept in separate locations, or it it
easier
to work with. Will be going to Win-7 in a couple months.
Thanks,

You can try the following:
First set up a new Identity and import the messages from the older
Identity.
Then backup the Rules branch of the Identities key for the original
Identity. Then edit the reg file to change the Identity number (GUID)
from
the damaged ID to the new ID. Then delete the Rules subkey on the new
Identity and merge the edited reg file and it should pickup the rules in
the
new Identity. But make sure your edits are correct or it won't work.

Robert, Bruce, Steve,
I checked the reg entry
HKCU\Identities\{GUID}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\5.0\Mail "Block External Content". It is present, makes no
difference whether the value is set to 0 or 1. Deleting it permits OE
to
recreate it without any pos effect.
So, on to the second question in correction this issue - Is there an
appl
available that will easily &
safely copy or migrate all OE data to a new identity, not just the dbx
files, but including the WAB, block senders and mail message rules?
I can do it per KB 270670 (how to back up & restore OE data), but if
its
been worked out, I'd rather let a tested appl do it all at one time.
Appreciate your help.

Where did you find that, Steve? I lost all my canned replies about

years ago and had to Google to get back what I could. That wasn't
among
what I found. <g>

You might also check this from a post by Bruce Hagen:
Go to Start | Run and type in:
regedit
Click OK and locate this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express
On the right-hand side of the page, double click: *No modify
accts*
value.
{If this value does not exist, on the Edit menu, click DWORD
Value.
Type: No
modify accts, and press Enter to save the name}.
Change the setting of this value from 1 to 0, click OK
--------------
There might be another "no modify" under that key you can check
as
well.

I have used Norton Systemworks which has included Norton
Antivirus
since
Win-XP was installed in 2001 on both computers. Every 2 years, I
uninstall
the program and components from Add/Remove Programs, except for
live
update,
then install the new version. Have not used the Norton removal
tool.
Neither
computers have had a trial version of NSW or NAV preinstalled,
or
installed.
The current version: SystemWorks 2008 Version: 11.0.2 Build: 1;
NAV
2008 Ver
15.0.0.58. The versions on both computers have been 2008, 2005,
2003,
2001.
I remember there was an issue with ?2003 when uninstalling it
caused
the
default sounds in AppEvents to be deleted, requiring them to be
added
back in
the registry.

May we assume that you've upgraded one or more Norton

several

Was a Norton free-trial preinstalled on the computer when you

it?
Have you ever run the Norton Removal Tool on this computer?
Repeat all of the above questions for the other WinXP computer.

It is ongoing, present every time I review the "Security"

It has Norton antivirus, and Windows Defender running.
I also have a completely separate Win-XP Dell computer with

Could there be a bug in one of the recent updates, or a

Both desktop computers run Win-XP Home, so there are no group

Does the computer in question belong to you or your
employer?
Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one?
