Re: Can't open pictures that are attached to emails in OE6

Is there any particular reason you feel there is a connection between this
and NIS? I'm not doubting you I just wondered? Thanks for the info.

1. Assuming you will want to reinstall IE8, go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=341c2ad5-8c3d-4347-8c03-08cdecd8852b
and download the installer, SAVING it to your desktop; do NOT RUN it.

2. Disable all NIS components (i.e., anti-virus; anti-spyware; firewall; any
Norton Add-ons) then IMMEDIATELY enable the Windows Firewall (Start |
Settings | Control Panel | Windows Firewall)!

3. Close all open applications (anything with a taskbar icon).

4. Uninstall "Windows Internet Explorer 8" via Add/Remove Programs & reboot
TWICE!

5. Repeat Steps #2 and #3 above.

6. Double-click on the file you saved in Step #1 to reinstall IE8. Follow
all prompts and reboot TWICE when finished.

7. Confirm that all NIS components are enabled and that the Windows Firewall
is disabled.

8. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com | Select CUSTOM and scan |
Install any Critical Security Updates offered (i.e., KB960897). If a Root
Certificates update is listed in the Optional Updates category, install it
to take full advantage of IE7's enhanced security.

9. FWIW, you're running NIS 2009 v2.5 and only v3.x is supported in IE8. If
your subscription is current, you can upgrade to v3.x for free. Contact
Symantec Support.

I'm sure that Norton was running as [IE8] was installed automatically.

norton is NIS ver. 16.5.0.134 Doesn't say anything about 2009

Was NIS running in the background when you installed IE8?

Are you running NIS 2009 v3.0?

I am having this problem on machine running XP Media Center SP3, IE8,
OE6.
Just recently after installing IE8 istarted having trouble opening
attached
picstures in Outlook Express. When trying to open jpg in attachment
the
hourglass displays for about 1 second and then nothing. Only happens
with
jpg or jpeg, everything else opens fine. They use to open into picture
viewer.

What weird is that if I close OE6 and reopen it, I can (for awhile at
least)
get the pictures to open just like they always did. But at some point
it
stops working correctly. I have not figured out what I do that makes it
stop yet.

When writing an email and I attach a picture to the email if I double
click
on the file in the attatch line on the email they open right up. But in
my
inbox or sent folder or drafts folder nothing happens.

I run norton internet security and have disabled email scanning but
acts
the same way.

Any sugestions?
