1. Disable email scanning entirely.

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email

2a. Download the Norton Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

2b. Close all open applications (i.e., anything with a taskbar icon).

2c. Double-click on the saved file to run the tool. Don't touch your keyboard until the run completes, then reboot.

I'm running the Virgin.net virus/spyware checker and have been for over 2
years
Anti virus only scans incoming mail
I had Norton anti virus but stopped it over two years ago

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than
Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?

Is your anti-virus application configured to scan incoming and outgoing
mail?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?
