I am the defacto IT guy at work; the office manager uses Outlook Express 6 on
an XP Professional workstation. She had no issues with email until Wednesday
when she called to say she couldn't open her attachments. When I went to her
machine I found that the preview pane was blank and although there was a
paperclip icon in the upper window, there was no papereclip on the header of
the message. When I changed her Read Option to plain text,
she was able to click on the paperclip at the header
and then open and read the email in
Notepad and she could open attachments,
So the E-mail was an .htm file? And the E-mail's attachments
were other files listed when you clicked on the paperclip icon?
Now imagine that there is no Plain Text component to that E-mail...
other files, they were other "types" - the email was actually .att, the Excel
was listed as .xls, etc.
but the preview pane is still blank.
Because there is no Plain Text component to that E-mail. ; )
Use Ctrl-F3 to check. If the E-mail is one she wants to read
turn *off* Read all messages in plain text.
If we turn "off" the Plain Text then we cannot see nor read anything at all.
I will try the Ctrl-F3, but not holding my breath.
BTW what happens if you turn the Preview pane off
and just open the E-mail in its own message window?
(E.g. press Ctrl-o or hit Enter while the message is selected
in the message list.)
If you try to open the email in its own window it is blank, just like the
Preview pane.
.
I have checked the Microsoft site and this forum but nothing seems to work.
I tried a new identitiy, but that didn't work. I backed up her OE files and
then deleted the Registry keys and the folders for OE and then let XP restore
the folders and re-registered the dll's, but still no success.
All help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Good luck
