Thank you for all the trouble you are taking. It still doesn't work with
the use DDE box unchecked. I have tried both methods in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929867 as well as your own very helpful
instructions. The Screen shots were very useful.
One thing I have noticed is when I am in File Types usually where there is
no extension it appears, in the Extension Column for example, as [NONE} and
then under File Types as Help & Support Centre Protocol. In the case of the
two I have created the File type arrears in the extension column e.g. [NONE]
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol & [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol
with Privacy & then in the File Types Column the entries appear as
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol & URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with
Privacy . BTW The entries don't appear as hypertexts - in blue underlined;
they just arrear this way in this post. Does the fact that my Extension
description is not just [NONE] make any difference?
I am in the UK where I suspect it's a lot colder than Imperial Beach, and as
it's nearly midnight I'm off to bed now. Goodnight.

Close OE. Uncheck: Use DDE. Open OE and try.

Hmm. It's not proving as easy as I thought. My OS is WinXP SP3. I am
trying to add a new file type however I might be doing something wrong.
What should I type in the extension box?
If I type [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol it first tells me I
cannot have any spaces. If I re-type it with no spaces then that is
registered. Do I then "change" what the file opens with to IExplore or
do I select "advanced" and then work my way through to
open.....iexplore.exe %1.
When I tried that after rebooting clicking on a link in an email did not
open Iexplore. Before moving onto your further suggestion I really need
to be satisfied that what I've done so far is correct.

Yes. Try to create the entry using the information provided. Reboot
when done.

Thank You. I've fallen at the first hurdle unfortunately in that
under File Types I do not have an entry for [NONE] URL: HyperText
Transfer Protocol. My list jumps from [None] URL: File Transfer
Protocol to [None] URL: LDAP Protocol. I do however have an entry for
[None].
Internet Shortcut (Not Even URL: Internet Protocol)
Do I need to create an entry?

Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to
Internet Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929867
If still no joy, for IE6 & IE7:
Courtesy of MVP Frank Saunders. (RIP)
If nothing happens when you click a link:
Open Windows Explorer, or the Control Panel.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT
URL:Internet Shortcut) and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.
"Application used to perform this action" should read:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (Check the
path to
iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.)
DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:
#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)
#4
WWW_OpenURL
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.
Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

Hello
I seem to be unable to opening browser links contained in e-mail
messages. I can only open the page by cutting & pasting into MSIE.
Is there a setting I can change in Outlook Express so that I can
open internet pages from links in e-mails please?
Brian
