Thanks so much for both your excellent information but also your speedy
reply! It is greatly appreciated!

AFAIK, you'll be able to access the Hotmail account in OE until January.
2009, at least.

Thanks for the info. I was incorrect, it's Windows LIVE Mail, and yes, it
was because I used to access my hotmail.

A1. Run Disk Cleanup | Make sure "Delete Temporary Internet Files" is
selected | Test.
A2. How are you being reminded to upgrade to Windows *LIVE* Mail,
Matthew?
Are you accessing a Hotmail account in OE currently?
[Windows Mail is the default Mail Client in Vista; Windows LIVE Mail is
an
optional Mail Client you can install in WinXP SP2/SP3 and use to access
POP3 and Hotmail accounts as well as News accounts, similar to OE.]
General OE Caveats:
- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.
- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.
- Disable Background Compacting [removed in WinXP SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More
at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm
- WinXP SP2 only: Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur,
and
do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place.
- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages), it provides no additional
protection,
and even Symantec says it's not necessary:
<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect
scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including
and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of
this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection,
keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you
have the most recent virus definitions.

After messages have been combined, when I click on the message, OE just
freezes. I've waited up to five minutes before. It doesn't always
matter
on the size of the combined message attachment, either. It seems the
same
whether it's 5MB or 35MB.
Is this just an issue with the combination process, or should I be
looking
for a problem?
I compact folders regularly and I don't have too many messages in my
folders.
This may not be the right spot to ask this, but I'm going to ask it
anyway.
I keep getting reminded to upgrade to Windows Mail to replace OE6. Does
Windows Mail still have the ability to combine/split messages?
Thanks!!
