Re: How to backup mailboxes?

In addition, FWIW, I moved my mailbox folders to a place where I can easily
see them and include them in my (online) back-up system. I gave the
directory a name I chose.

I used the feature already mentioned by Bruce Hagen in his first post in
this thread (Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder).

This also means that I can easily see the file size of each folder by
navigating to the mailbox directory with any file viewer and even Windows
Explorer

If you can find it by pasting the path in Start | Run, then see where it
is and work backwards in the expanded folder tree until you get to
Documents and Settings, writing this all down. You must be clicking on a
wrong folder somewhere along the way.

Again thanks to Bruce and Richard.

Following Bruce's first response I checked to see if Show Hidden Files
and Folders was enabled and it was, so that is not my problem.
I also unchecked Hide protected operating system files but when I go
to C:\Documents and Settings\Owner I do not see Local
Settings\ApplicationData\Identities\{265D787F-A9D6-4C31-B6F7-4D32C0D91F9D}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express where my .dbx files are supposed to be. In fact there is no
Local Settings folder at all.

I have two other Folders under C:\Documents and Settings:
Administrator and All Users (why I don't know) but Local Settings is
not found in either of them?

The "local settings" folder is normally a hidden folder.
If you go to "folder options" in the control panel.
Then in the "view tab" you change the settings from "hide system
files" to "show system files" you
will be able to see the "local Settings" folder.

By default, Windows is set to hide system folders to keep novices from
deleting them.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must
enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder
Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

Fortunately, I am able to access Outlook Express and the .dbx files if
I paste the location into Start I Run. But still don't know exactly
where they are on my HDD - the window that opens just says Outlook
Express?
