The problem has been solved--more later.

Firstly appologies for some "duff" info I gave out in my first message. When
I said that my other PCs' sent the mail OK this I have found out was
incorrect.

All my other PC's had AVG 8 working on them with the outbound mail scanner
activated. When I went to "send mail" I saw the usual XP dialogue window
which showed me that the message was being sent. What I failed to do was
check for incomming mail but when I did I noticed that AVG had SENT me e
mails advising of non delivery due to possible smtp problems.

I turned off mail scanning and this time I could not send out mail on any Pc
with the error message arising as before.
The fact that I could send mail over other ISP accounts HAD to point to the
rogue ISP somehow.

I then noticed that the dial up telephone number that the ISP gave me was
different to the one I had used in the past. So, I tried using my old number
and low and behold I could send mail again over any PC. I informed the ISP of
this and they are now scratching their heads as they are adamant that the new
number works from their end.

So I can sleep again tonight and await the words of technical wisdom that
the ISP can give me.

blank formatted one then installed XP Pro on it. Once up and running I
opened up OE and set up the connections and mail accounts and tried
again
to send mail. SAME problem can receive but not send through any ISP
connections. So, the only common thing is the hardware such as MOBO etc.
I
installed a port reader and watched the events when trying to send the e
mail and the port 25 was opened and smtp server contacted. NETSTAT also
verified that port 25 had "sync sent".
Any one out there with any ideas where to look or what could possibly be
wrong before I install a new MOBO. I have unstalled many many systems
but
this one has me stumped.
