If you strictly adhere to all of the Caveats I've posted (at least twice in this thread), you should NOT encounter corruption. If you do, something's funky with your install of WinXP (not OE) and you'd need to do a format & reinstall (not a Repair Install).
NB: Do NOT rename the MAIN IDENTITY, create a new one. To avoid any confusion, do not use the word MAIN in the name of any user-created identities.

I AGREE. So please tell me what is breaking them and how to prevent it?

User-created identity's do NOT break of their own accord.
Repost:If the behavior's not fixed now, chances are your latest identity is now
corrupt, too.
General OE Caveats to avoid such problems:
- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.
- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.
- Disable Background Compacting [removed in WinXP SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More
at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm
- WinXP SP2 only: Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur,
and
do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place.
- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages), it provides no additional
protection,
and even Symantec says it's not necessary:
<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this.
To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

If it happens *again*, stick to webmail, d00d.

HOWEVER
I have generated about seven in past two months to get past this problem

that's a lot of work with moving messages, moving address book, and
reestablishing newsgroups. Plus in my rush generating them to get a post
out I have lost some old messages thru carelessness. I really need a FIX

Again thanks

difference?
BTW. I use Avast (free) myself and you /can/ install it in custom mode,
although it may be called something else. I don't recall for sure.

If this is any help I notice that sending 50-100k files they seem to
go
out in many brief bursts rather than one smooth uninterrupted message.
Maybe 2,3 ,5 one second pauses. Could I have a buffer problem
somewhere?

I would never send a picture of that size, I am only doing for testing
this problem.
GREAT ISP : Sonic reply to size question
"The maximum allowed size that can be sent is 20mb. If your Outlook
Express is till breaking the messages up at a smaller size then we
should check a setting here. Go to Tools -> Accounts. Click on the
tab, select the sonic.net email account then click properties. In this
screen click on the Advanced tab. Check the Sending option ensuring
that
"Break apart messages larger than" is NOT checked.
Hope this helps. Thanks for choosing Sonic.net!

To reconfirm all I just attempted to send a 3 meg picture file
With default mark-up, a 3MB attachment to a, e.g., 10KB message
becomes
a ~4.1MB email! Most ISPs limit the size of an email to 2MB (and
usually much lower than that).
That's like trying to send a '77 Caddy in a shoe box via snail-mail,
SG. Either resize the pic (considerably) or use other methods to send
such a large file (e.g., FTP or CD sent via snail-mail).
