I still don't understand how to find the OE File and look to see if "Main
Identity" is the only one listed. Could you provide more information?

I have disabled Norton scanning for incoming and outgoing email. Currently
the Compact Check Count in the Registry increases by 5-8 increments a day,
even though I only open and close OE6 once or twice a day. I'll watch it and
see if it's better.

Do you want me to run Windows Scandisk and Defrag?

Disable it ASAP! It provides no additional protection, it's known to cause
corruption (e.g., loss of OE messages; the compacting problem you've
encountered since install WinXP SP3) and even Symantec says it's not
necessary:

Haven't run the Norton equivalent of Cleanup and Defrag since installing
SP3.

I said nothing about any "Norton equivalents" of these WINDOWS utilities:
Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | ...

Using Norton AV and firewall, plus Microsoft Defender anti-spam.
All were running when I installed SP3.

Defender is an anti-*spyware* application, not an anti-spam application.

NAV and Norton Personal Firewall should have been disabled (and the Windows
Firewall *enabled*) prior to installing WinXP SP3. [1]

If the Norton application is a 2008 version (i.e., Norton Internet Security
2008; Norton 360 2008), things could be more problematic. [2]

I will have some suggestions/recommendations after seeing your next reply to
this thread.

Have you run Disk Cleanup and then a Defrag session since you installed
SP3?

Do you use MailWasher? Do you use any other anti-spam
application/filtering?

Is your anti-virus application configured to scan incoming/outgoing mail?

Have you opened a free WinXP SP3 support incident about this?
