Re: sp3 + O.E. 6

...we each have seperate mail accounts with
Comcast's web based server.

Your 2 email addresses are "aliases" for one mailbox so you'll still need to use Message Rules to avoid messages to both accounts downloading into OE.

Background: Most families (an intentionally all-encompassing term) will have one Mail Account with their one ISP subscription ($$/month for all). Most ISPs provide you with multiple Addresses for the Mail Account (e.g., grampy@xxxxxxxxxxx; mrsgrampy@xxxxxxxxxxx; sonofgrampy@xxxxxxxxxxx etc.) but all of them "point" to the one mailbox. As such, each Identity will need to use Message Rules so that only mail addressed to them is downloaded into their Inbox.

The following refers to two addresses, but you should be able to follow it and amend for three or more if necessary.

grampy@xxxxxxxxxxx and mrsgrampy@xxxxxxxxxxx are aliases for one Mail Account (mailbox). In the Identity associated with grampy@xxxxxxxxxxx, create a Message Rule stating, "Where To or CC contains mrsgrampy@xxxxxxxxxxx, Do not download it from the server" and place this rule at the very top of the list.

Then create a similar rule for the Identity associated with mrsgrampy@xxxxxxxxxxx directing any messages addressed to grampy@xxxxxxxxxxx not to be downloaded from the server.

I am running Comcast's free Mcafee Secuity Center and the only problem we
had was with O/E.

Assuming McAfee Security Center was running when you installed SP3, that may well have caused any problems, Grampy. See:

WinXP SP3 - Read all prerequisites for a successful installation

If you make certain that all components of McAfee Security Center are disabled before reinstalling SP3, all should be well.

If I could develope an interface with newsgroups, I would not have to keep
coming back to check. I have to call Comcast because the last I heard they
were not supporting newsgroups any longer.

It is possible that I had configured one O/E. acc't but do not remember in
the midst of all the confusion.

I have since uninstalled sp3 and used the disk to reinstall it. All is
running well.

No.

Both of your email addresses (e.g., grampy@xxxxxxxxxxx;
mrsgrampy@xxxxxxxxxxx) probably point to the same mailbox with your ISP.
OE will download all new messages in your default Comcast mailbox. [I
remember that you're a Comcast subscriber.]

Was one or more of your email addresses configured and running in OE before
you installed SP3?

There were
issues with newsgroups we never encountered before also.

Such as...?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these applications running when you installed SP3?

We no longer use O.E. but were curious if others had the same problem?
Thank you
