Re: Importing .pab address book

Hi Michael,
Thank you very much for you time and help on this issue.
Although I have been unable to add the Microsoft Exchange PAB option, 'Plan
B' worked just fine!
Many thanks.

That's interesting. Besides those options, I have Microsoft Exchange
PAB and Works Address book.

It might be a matter of what's installed. I have Office XP (2002)
installed as well as Works. It could be that OE doesn't recognize the
Office 2003 version.

In any case, plan B should work

Michael,

The options I have in 'Other Address Book' are:
Eudora Pro ...
LDIF ...
Microsoft Internet Mail ...
Netscape Address Book ...
Netscape Communicator Address Book ...
Text File

My version of OE6 is:
6.00.2900.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)

The address books for OE6 and Outlook are not shared.

"Michael Santovec" wrote:

I've got that option in mine, as well as 7 other import options under
Other address book. They are listed in alphabetical order with the
Exchange listed as the 3rd. Other options include Eudora, a couple
of
Netscape versions as well as a text format. Do you have those?

Also what version of OE6 do you have? Look in Help, About Outlook
Express.

If you have the text import option (which you should), you could
export
the address book in Outlook 2003 to a CSV (Comma Separated Values)
text
file which OE can import.

If you aren't getting any import options for the address book, that
can
indicate that you have OE set to share the Outlook Contacts in which
case importing/exporting of the OE address book isn't allowed since
OE
isn't using its own address book.

Michael. Thanks for your reply.
I have both OE6 and Outlook 2003 on the same machine. I have
followed
this
link:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA010920381033.aspx
which allowed me to create the .pab file successfully. Item 3 in
this
document states "Select Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book"
from
OE,
File, Import, Other Address Book. The problem is that the option
Microsoft
Exchange Personal Address Book does not appear under Other Address
Book.

OE cannot directly read or write PST or PAB files. You have to
have
a
program installed on the same PC with Outlook Express that can
handle
PST or PAB files. This would be the Win95 Exchange Client,
Windows
Messaging, Outlook97/98/2000+. OE uses the MAPI functions to get
the
other program to handle the PST or PAB file and pass the data to
it.
That other program must be the default MAPI client, not OE. It
uses
the
default profile of that program to import data from.

I am trying to import a Personal Address Book in to Outlook
Express
6.
The
.pab file was created by Outlook 2003. I understand that to
import
a
.pab
file in to OE one has to click on File, Import, Other Address
Book
then
select Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book. The problem I
have
is
that
the option "Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book" does not
appear
in the
list of options!
Can anyone please advise?
