Re: Attachment indicated by the paperclip

My Windows XP security centre shows that security is ON.
My AVG 7.5 free edition security status in the control centre states that I
am fully protected and that my system is up to date and all installed
components are working properly.
At the bottom of this security status it now states; '' Email Scanner No
plug in is active" There are no nasty exclamation points over any icons
anywhere.
I didn't first uninstall AVG and reinstalled it again to disable the email
scanner. I followed the procedure explained in my earlier post. I configured
the status of my AV email scanner only, not my AV app completely. This, I
thought, was a simple adjustment and it fixed the paperclip notification
problem I had. I was not aware that the AVG email scanner was the cause of
this and I appreciated your earlier advise.

That might be new behavior with AVG 8.0. All I can tell you is that if
you installed and then disabled Email Scanning in AVG 7.5 and earlier, the
AVG icon in Notification Area would have a nasty exclamation point over
it. And IIRC, Security Center would protest that AVG wasn't working
right.

Now, if you have Security Center configured to ignore the status of your
AV app, well, that'd be a different story.

While disabling no warnings or protests appeared. On the security status
window next to the component Email scanner it now shows "No plug in is
active". All other components remained the same.

Aren't Security Center and AVG "protesting" this move?

Thanks for your advice.
I have now disabled email scanning with my AVG and this works OK, the
paperclip now only shows if an attachment is included.
I didn't have to reinstall etc. AVG. I found that by going into the AVG
security status and email scanning I could under properties and the
plug
in
tab disable the plug in for the email scanner. Also under configuration
I
unclicked "check incoming and outgoing mail"

If the message contains any HTML and you are reading in Plain Text,
you
will see the paper clip.

Also, if you are using AVG for your anti-virus and have e-mail
scanning
enabled, that can cause the issue as well. Normally, I would just say
to
turn off the e-mail scanning feature. It is a redundant layer of
protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such
as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program
will
continue to protect you sufficiently. However, with AVG you need to
remove
and reinstall AVG and choose Custom Mode. Uncheck E-mail Scanning when
you
see that option. For some reason, just unchecking it in the security
center causes a conflict with the Windows Security Center.

I have XP Home SP2 with Outlook Express. Emails I send only show a
paperclip in my window if I have sent an attachment with it. However
emails I receive show the paperclip all the time regardless if an
attachment is with it or not.
Is this normal or is there a way to correct this??
