I have nothing further to suggest or recommend, Larry, but tell me something, please:
OE Tools | Options | Send | News Sending Format | Plain Text | Indent the original text with...
Is the above option enabled? If so, did you disable it and was it disabled before you installed SP3?
Also, is AVG 8.0 Email Scanner installed and enabled?

Further Info re this:
I turn on the PC and do not start OE or anything else. I set the counter to
zero and leave the machine for an hour. At the end of the hour, with
nothing being done on the machine, the counter has incremented to 9 on my
ID. I don't know whether this info helps, but it certainly adds to the
puzzle.
ZA Pro 4.5.538.001 has been on the machine for several years and has worked
perfectly. This is definitely an SP3 problem and I'm not going to go that
route on spec.

I've seen several instances where having ZA Pro installed when you install
SP3 (even if it's disabled during the install) cause any number of problems,
Larry.
Other than (1) uninstalling ZA Pro, (2) enabling the Windows Firewall, (3)
uninstalling SP3 via Add/Remove Programs (with AVG disabled), and (4)
compacting all folders in all identities, (5) reinstalling SP3 via Express
option at Windows Update (not using a downloaded installer) (with AVG
disabled and all applications closed), and (6) rebooting twice, I'd
recommend that you open a free support incident.

Larry wrote:Further to last night's info: By the time I was ready to shut down (about
2
hours after compacting), the count on the main ID had gone to 28. There
was
only 2 changes of ID during that time so something else is incrementing
this
counter. This did NOT happen before SP3 install. As I said before, the
counter increased by just changing the screen saver time via desktop|rt
click and obviously other things are incrementing it as well.

several times a day in fact. Even though I do compress them, when asked,
it

Anyone else getting this?
How do I stop it from happening?
