Re: Cannot send mail from OE6...3 days now

Sue,

Thanks for the below information. I can use Hotmail to send for now but
prefer, like you, using OE. Your MSN and Hotmail email address and password
are the same, correct?

Thanks, Don. I do have a temporary fix. I had written through the
support,
they sent the standard BS, and I wrote back as nicely as I could (well,
not
really, but I was civil), that what they told me was garbage and I wanted
an
answer now. Below is what they sent and it does work. I did write back
and
ask them to explain how my pop3/smtp MSN account went to a strictly HTTP
server/Hotmail account between the hrs of 9am and 2 pm while I was at
work.
Like you, I've experienced it in the past, but it's normally fixed within
24
hrs. It just ticks me off that they keep blaming it on something we do,
when
clearly it's not our fault. If I could've reached through the phone
lines
last night....well, let's just say I was really, really ticked. Anyways,
this works and is a temp fix for now:

For Outlook Express 6.0
1. On the "Tools" menu, click "Accounts."
2. Click "Add," and then click "Mail."
3. Next to "Display name," type the name that you want to appear in the
"From" field of outgoing messages, and then click "Next."
4. Next to "E-mail address," type your Hotmail e-mail address, and then
click "Next."
5. Next to "My incoming mail server is a," click "HTTP."
6. Next to "My HTTP mail service provider is," click "Hotmail," and then
click "Next."
7. Next to "Account name," type your Hotmail e-mail address.
8. Next to "Password," type your Hotmail password, and then click "Next."
9. Click "Finish," and then click "Close."

I did not delete the MSN profile I have in there, I just made the new one
the default. For now, it's better than having to got to the Hotmail site
to
answer mail.

Thanks, All, for your support. If I hear anything else, I'll let you
know!

Sue,

It won't help but I am in the same boat and it has happened before. All
my
account setting are correct on both my XP laptop and 98se PC and have
been
working just fine for a long time. Nothing has changed on either
computer
except I can't connect to my smpt.live server at MSN. Still can
receive,
just can't send. MSN will never admit to having a problem on their end
but
this problem has gone away in the past after a few days. I don't think
anyone works at MSN over the weekend! I know it's a PITA but just hang
in
there.
