Re: need help with outgoing emails

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

bruce,
hate to throw a wrinkle into the problem but i uninstalled trend, system has
no virus software at all and my oe6 will not allow anything to be sent(a test
message to myself) it puts it right away in the outbox folder and gives me
the following error message:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.comcast.net',
Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
funny thing is I get emails though from others.
what do you think I need to do now?

Just like with Norton, or McAfee, Trend can work fine for months and
possibly years. What happens is an update from Trend screws things up.

IMHO, you would be better off if you got rid of Trend all together and used
one of these.

I would suggest either Avast, (freeware), or NOD32, (not free).

In the case of Avast, choose Custom Installation and under Resident
Protection, uncheck: Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange.

Avast:

NOD32:

Install /any/ AV in custom mode and always uncheck your e-mail scanning
options.

I have used Avast (freeware) for some time and cannot think of a bad thing
to say about the program.

frank,
you might be on the right track with the latest version of trend, thats
what
i have, but why would it work for two months with that new version and
then
cause this problem.

sorry for my unsaviness with this support site, hopefully this is what
you
wanted to see:
A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account:
'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port:
25,
Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19
what i was trying to communicate was that a seperate window
appears(unable
to copy and paste the exact words) that asks you to wait 60 seconds or
stop
oe6 from trying to communicate with my isp's smpt
server(smpt.comcast.net).
the only way to get rid of that window is to wait or stop.

... after 30 seconds an error message appears ...

So is the error message going to remain a secret?

Don't describe an error. Don't paraphrase or summarize an error
message. Copy-n-paste it exactly as it appears or transcribe it
verbatim.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the
regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.
