Re: Address Book Corrupted?

Michael,
Thanks for the reply.
I don't think the WAB file is corrupted. I renamed the existing file,
opened OE and imported the WAB data into the newly created address book, and
it still gives me the same problem. I also overwrote the wab.exe,
wabfind.dll, wabimp.dll and wamig.exe files in C:\Program Files\Outlook
Express in case there was corruption there.
This computer seems to have some other issues as well. Right mouse clicking
in Windows Explorer causes the installation program for CA's Etrust Antivirus
to start. The performance of the machine in general is really sluggish. I'm
thinking I'll probably have to reinstall the OS, which I was hoping to avoid.
I've run Adaware and Windows Defender, but nothing has resolved the problems
yet.
If you have any other thoughts regarding OE's address book, I'd certainly
like to hear them.
Thanks again,
Keith

Does the user have a good backup copy? I'm guessing not.
See:
The Windows Address Book (WAB)
http://www.insideoe.com/files/wab.htm
You can try the automatic backup copy that OE makes.
If you still have problems, try copying a WAB file from a known working
PC. If that works, then the WAB file on the problem PC is likely
corrupted. If the copied file still fails, then you likely have some
corrupted DLL or ones that have been modified by the malware.

I am working on a co-workers computer problem. When I open the Address
Book
from Outlook Express, the left pane constantly flashes and I am unable
to
scroll down the list of contacts as would normally be possible. I
think
there was some spyware or virus problem on the computer (and may still
be
there) which may have caused this. If I change the layout of OE to
show the
contacts, it causes OE to crash, giving the following error in the
