Re: . Where are the settings

Yes, I understand what you're saying. I'd already saved all the dbx files as well as the address book.
My interest is in where to find the POP and SMTP settings. I know they are dictated by the ISP, but they are stored, in some fashion, on the system and that's what I need to get to. If they are in the registry, I would imagine it's a lost cause, but if they're in a specific readable file somewhere, maybe I can get in and read what they are.

The server settings are dictated by the ISP. You would have to contact them.

If you are trying to find the OE dbx files, they are in the message store, and if intact can be imported to a new OE to view, even if it is not set up online with a server.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

In the new identity: File | Import | Messages. Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and Import from the old identity.

I'm trying to revive a corrupted copy of XP Home. Using a parallel install of XP, I managed to take posession and save all personal files to an external hard drive, including all outlook express files.

This is someone else's computer, and I'm not sure if he has all the original setup info available. He's abot 1200 miles away.

Is there some file I can look in to see the POP, Server, Username associated with OE-6 in the original installation. Keep in mind, I'm working from a parallel install, so it's not as easy as just running OE and checking the account info. I also don't (I believe) have access to the registry for that installation.

Any suggestions?
