Re: Outlook Express 6

I am assuming the account in question is a name@xxxxxxxxxxx account. If it's not, STOP HERE!

1. Disable NAV's Email Protection but *not* NAV itself.

2. Physically disconnect the machine from the internet.

3. Uninstall ZA Free.

4. Create a new OE identity (File > Identities > Add new identity) and configure the name@xxxxxxxxxxx account in it per the instructions at http://www.netzero.net/support/email/email-setup-msoex5.html. Note Step #13: the Account name entered should be "name", not "name@xxxxxxxxxxx".

5. Reconnect to the internet and test the account's ability to Send and Receive in this new identity. If necessary, Send yourself a message.

**Be careful! Without a firewall, don't do _anything_ else online except testing the name@xxxxxxxxxxx account!**

6. Whether Sending succeeded or not, immediately install a firewall (be it ZA Free, Comodo Free, or whatever) and configure it so that it's not blocking Ports 25 and 110. [NB: If you connect via a router with a NAT firewall, you might consider not using a third-party firewall like ZA or Comodo.]

7. Assuming Sending and Receiving succeeds in the new identity: (a) compact all folders in the old identity, (b) import messages from the old identity into the new one, and then (c) delete the old one (File > Identities > Manage Identities).

I uninstalled AVG several weeks ago as I was having the same problem,

I'm wondering if I should change to XP ?

Please state your Windows version.

Are you running ZA Free or Pro?

Have you uninstalled AVG Free Anti-Virus?

I have some ideas but I need your answers to the above first.

I have the time out set at 2 mins:

Outgoing set at authsmtp.netzero.com

Would I be better to delete Outlook Express 6 and start all over?

Norton (AntiVirus): You needn't uninstall NAV, just disable it's Email
Protection. It in fact provides no /additional/ protection and even
Symantec says it's not necessary:

<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect
scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including
email
and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of
this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection,
keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you
have the most recent virus definitions.
</QP>

ZA: Assuming you're running ZA Free and that you do NOT have Norton
Internet Security of Norton 360 installed, you can (1) disable or
uninstall ZA Free, (2) enable the Windows Firewall and then (3) see if
things improve.

Hi Pa Bear:

I do have Platinum and HiSpeed 3G account? and I just upgraded to DSL,
but
this started long before DSL.
Secondly, I had the same problem when I was using Free AVG. If I remove
ZoneAlarm & Norton what happens to my protection when I'm on the net?
and
also when I am upgrading them with new updates?
Should I take out one at a time? and which one first?
I await your reply.

Important note for Free NetZero members: To take advantage of offline
email
clients such as Microsoft Outlook [and Outlook Express], you must
upgrade
to a Platinum or HiSpeed 3G account.
