Re: Storing emails outside of OE

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I just hit "File/Save As" for this post, and saved it to My
Documents/Computer/MS/OE, and hit SAVE. It will be there in my Word file as
an .eml file, and if I go to find it, and click on it, it opens as an OE
message/post (in this case), and I can do anything with it, I'd do with any
other OE email. Its a quick and simple way to save important emails so one
doesn't have to dive into Archived emails--but I do save my OE back ups as
you recommend herein.

Thank you all for all you do. Query coming up! ;)

If you don't go much over 100 MB for each folder, OE shouldn't slow down
with regular maintenance. You might want to create a new identity solely
for archiving and import just those folders. That will leave your current
identity almost pristine.

File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and you can import
your archived messages and from the old identity and delete it them in the
old ID.

I assume that 5 years of emails in OE will slow it down in spite of
regular
compacting, even if one keeps the Inbox relatively small. Can one move
old
emails to an external hard drive for storage in such a way that you can
still
see the TO:, FROM:, and SUBJECT: as you can in the OE folders?

Can I simply have copy of OE on an external hard drive solely for viewing
old stored mail (ie not for sending or receiving emails)?

Thanks,
Janet
