Compacting error

I used to run 'Compact all folders' on a regular basis. Very occasionally I
would get the error message "The folder is currently in use by Outlook
Express or by another application" but that was easily resolved by closing
down and opening up OE. However, the error now message comes up every
time and cannot be cleared. I am not aware of making any changes that may
have caused this. Any ideas how to resolve this please?

Regards.
