I will leave you in winston's good & most capable hands, Karen.
Win98 or not, I would *strongly* urge you to get a suitable anti-virus application installed on the machine and properly configured. If cost is an issue, I can recommend these free ones (in order) Active Virus Shield (http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp) and Avast4 (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html). I do not recommend AVG (Free or Pro) Anti-Virus.
Your anti-virus application should be configured to seek and install updates automatically, daily, at a time when the machine is usually running and connected to the internet. It should also be configured to run a full system scan a few minutes after seeking/installing updates, also daily. Anything less is simply insufficient these days.
Good luck.

She is MSN 9 and has been using OE for many years. Her setting in the mail<paste>

internet.
I forgot to mention the senior Citizen has Windows 98, no anti-virus program</paste>
and has had not problems until 6/25/07. She can receive, and send, her
emails at MSN web site but it won't download to Outlook Express 6 and she
can't send from Outlook Express. Does anyone know what has changed lately
to cause this problem?

Has she ever been able to access the name@xxxxxxx account in OE before
this? --
