Re: OE newsgroup .dbx file name BUG

Hi,

I tried to duplicate the problem but it did not happen, perhaps I didn't do
it correctly.

As you suspected, when I subscribed to the newsgroups you provided, they
were assigned to (2) dbx.

Anyway with this appearing to be the last version of Outlook Express,
suspect there will not be much interest to repair.

My original post was just to confirm a identity can sign up for this
newsgroup via different news servers and each will be assigned their own dbx
file.... dbx, then dbx1, then dbx2 and etc.

| Thank you for your participation, Ken, different servers miss different
| articles, some missing is expectable:
|
| 1. Out its retention time, older articles certainly do not exist.
|
| 2. Binary unsupported, articles with attachments or in HTML format
certainly
| do not exist.
|
| 3. Cancel supported, articles which had been canceled certainly do not
exist
| (while they still remain on servers which prohibit cancel operation).
|
| 4. Anti-server-rules, different servers have their different rules for
| accepting articles, articles with incorrect date head or spam-like will be
| discarded by some servers.
|
| While some missing is not expectable:
|
| 1. news:\\news.f.de.plusline.net missed all 21 articles that I posted in
| the period of March 17-31, 2007, while other articles that I posted out of
| that period are not missed.
|
| 2. In another time, news:\\news.readfreenews.net missed my original
article
| (plain text normal article with correct date head), but displayed the
| reply-articles send by others.
|
| My suppositions are:
|
| 1. Verizon does not display any post that has an attachment may be an
| expectable result if verizon only supports plain text posts.
|
| 2. OE can function properly with multiple instances of the same newsgroup
in
| one Identity. If you subscribe
|
news:\\nntp.aioe.org\microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
| (keep msnews and verizon instances), I suppose it will use
| microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress (2).dbx (if you
| never subscribed it before since news:\\nntp.aioe.org account is added)
and
| function ok.
|
| 3. OE has a bug with newsgroup dbx file name.
|
| 3.1 If you then unsubscribe
|
news:\\nntp.aioe.org\microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress,
| close and restart OE (make sure let OE to remove the unused (2).dbx,
| sometimes unused dbx file will be removed immediately after unsubscribing,
| sometimes will be removed only after closing OE), subscribe
|
news:\\news.cn99.com\microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
| (or other server fast enough to test), I suppose it will use
| microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress (2).dbx (if you
| never subscribed it before since news:\\news.cn99.com account is added)
and
| function ok (because
|
news:\\nntp.aioe.org\microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
| has been unsubscribed).
|
| 3.2 Then you re-subscribe
|
news:\\nntp.aioe.org\microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress, I
| suppose the bug will happen, it will also use
| microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress (2).dbx, and it
| will tangle with
|
news:\\news.cn99.com\microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress.
