Re: Error 10061, 0x800ccc0e, bug?

Sorry! The Washington Post article was from last April. Nevertheless, it
looks like it's happening again. I tried to uninstall the patches using
"Add/Remove Programs" tool and it wouldn't work. The only thing that worked
was System Restore.

I'm leary about reinstalling the April 2007 patches until I've researched
this a bit more! I've updated NIS and I'm not having any problems. Getting
rid of the patches worked for me. I will definitely contact MS about this.

There are numerous articles on the net that supports that the April Updates
are interferring with other programs. Below is one of them. MS originally
tried to blame other programs with differnet types of problems that was
occuring with IE and OE.

Here's a link from the Washington Post:

I own NIS 2005 and haven't had any problems for 2 years until I installed
the April updates. Should MS be giving patches that interfere with NIS? I
mean which came first? Why aren't we looking at this the other way around?
Sounds like there could be a problem with the April Updates and NIS, but why
are we blaming a program that has not caused me any problems until I
installed the Windows Updates?

I will not be reinstalling the April Updates until I research this a bit
more. I did a System Restore and it solved the problem.

It's definitely the April Windows update!!!! Those patch numbers are
KB930178, 931261, 931784, 932168. I installed them on 4/14. I tried
unistalling them, and like I thought, not that simple! I did a system
restore for 4/13 (day before install) and it totally fixed the problem.
Checked program files after restore and the updates are gone and OE is
working just dandy!

The people at MS who are advising people on this blog that it's just a
"coincidence" that the problems with OE start appearing after the April
updates are full of doo doo!!

Now, just to make sure, I need to run Live Update with NIS to make sure
that
wasn't the culprit.

I have all of those patches and have had no problems since installing them.
NIS is probably interfering with something in those patches. Norton and
McAfee are bad for OE and not good for WinXP.
