I have deleted enough of the messages that I have my desktop back. I still
have to finish deleting the rest of the messages because of all folders to
dump on the desktop it was one of the largest folders. Just wanted to thank
you for this save also.

Do you still have copies of the messages in your OE folders? If you do, then
you can delete the envelopes.

Can I just delete each of the envelops on the desktop? What will happen if
I
do that. I can't drag them anywhere. The desktop doesn't seem to come back
while I have the envelop to try to drag. I drag it to the edge of the
desktop
screen but that's as far as it goes.

It would appear that you missed the folder you created on the Desktop and
just dropped them all there.

Drag the OE window to the right to reveal most of the Desktop, keeping
the
folder tree visible. Hold the Ctrl key down while you click on each
envelope
to highlight them and then drag the group of envelopes back to a folder
in
the folder tree. (You may have to do this in a few steps).

The envelopes will still be on the Desktop, but you should have the
messages
back. Make sure, and if they are, you can delete the envelopes.

Now see if my second reply is a better solution.

Create a folder on your Desktop, then in Outlook Express open the
folder
with the messages you want to save. Highlight one message, then Ctrl+A
will
highlight them all, (or hold the Ctrl button down while you select
only
the
messages you want), Now, drag and drop them to the folder on your
Desktop.

HELP!!! I did that with the first folder and everything worked fine.
The
second folder has caused everything on my desktop to disappear and all
that's
on my desktop now is white envelopes with the name of the message. How
can
I
get my normal desktop back? What did I do? I don't know how this
happened
or
what to do. Please, please tell me what I can do to get my desktop back
to
normal.

To backup messages to a readable CD:

only
the

(Easiest if the folder shortcut is on the Taskbar).

Now you can copy that folder to a CD and you will be able to read the
messages on the CD by double-clicking on them.

The downside of this is that messages that have the same subject will
be
overwritten. To avoid this, purchase:

Easy way...

1. Open OE
2. Select (highlight) what you want to save. Ctrl + A selects all
3. Drag the lot to a folder, You can then Burn that folder or its
contents
to a CD
I burn CD/DVD's all the time. I even have the equipment to, and do,
transfer
my video tapes to DVD so it's not like I'm unfamiliar with burning.
For
some
reason I can not get this 'Easy Way' to work with trying to save my
messages.
I would love to be able to get this to work because I'm trying to
get
my
messages off of my hard drive. If anyone knows how I can accomplish
this
or
what the problem could be, since I'm not able to get this to work,
please
let
me know. I have some messages from a relative who is now deceased
and I
DO
NOT want to lose her messages. I am desperate to get these messages
saved.
Thanks for any help I can get with this.
