Do you still have copies of the messages in your OE folders? If you do, then you can delete the envelopes.

Can I just delete each of the envelops on the desktop? What will happen if I
do that. I can't drag them anywhere. The desktop doesn't seem to come back
while I have the envelop to try to drag. I drag it to the edge of the desktop
screen but that's as far as it goes.

It would appear that you missed the folder you created on the Desktop and
just dropped them all there.
Drag the OE window to the right to reveal most of the Desktop, keeping the
folder tree visible. Hold the Ctrl key down while you click on each envelope
to highlight them and then drag the group of envelopes back to a folder in
the folder tree. (You may have to do this in a few steps).
The envelopes will still be on the Desktop, but you should have the messages
back. Make sure, and if they are, you can delete the envelopes.
Now see if my second reply is a better solution.
