Re: Can't send messages

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Are you sure this started after downloading some Updates? Remove them from
Add/Remove programs. (They all have installation dates). Reboot and try. If
that works, go back to Windows Updates and download them again with your
entire anti-virus program disabled.
I can't remove Internet Explorer 7 because that updated replaced the
previous version. If I remove it then I will not have an internet browser;
correct?

-- Did you just uncheck e-mail scanning in AVG's Security Center, or did you
uncheck it during the installation?
I went into the AVG manager and turned off the email scanner. I had already
downloaded and installed the Microsoft updates without knowing the anti-virus
could interferre with that process. And by the way, I did finally get the
'copy' feature to work so that I could highlight the messages and copy them
into 'notepad' to print them out. I don't know why it wasn't working
properly. I'm tempted to throw this thing in the pool except I don't think
it's the computer; it's the conflicts between some of the software that I
have to find and fix. I'm so frustrated because of the time this is costing
me. I'm self employed and this is killing me. Thanks so much for your help.
I'm trying to follow your suggestions but I'm not sure of exactly what I'm
doing so that's why I'm asking more questions then most people would have to.

See this for some other possibilities.

How to troubleshoot error messages that you receive when try to send and
receive e-mail in Outlook and in Outlook Express:

Did you just uncheck e-mail scanning in AVG's Security Center, or did you
uncheck it during the installation?

Reinstall AVG and choose Custom Mode. Uncheck E-mail Scanning when you see
that option. For some reason, just unchecking it in the security center
causes a conflict with the Windows Security Center.

Make sure you reboot when you're done. Make sure you have version 7.5.
Version 7.1 became useless about two months ago.

I use the free AVG anti-virus but I'm not running the email scanner so I
don't know what is keeping me from being able to send the email. Since my
anti-virus isn't running what else could it be? Any ideas.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer
of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and
causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes
and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V
program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:

If you're using Norton, any of its components may be the cause.

Feb. 23rd through March 9th I wrote about and received replies to my
request
for help with the problems I was, and am, having with 'switching
identies'. I
have been changing the 'manage identies' to change from one
indentity
to
another rather then have to reboot or sign off and then back on to
change
identies. Now I'm not able to send my messages. I can receive but
not
send.
It says; The connection to the server has failed. I am receiving
mail,
as
I've
said, so I know I'm connected. My provider is not having any
problems.
Is
this just another symptom of the corruption to the identities caused
by
whatever has caused my inability to change between identities? I'm
hoping
to
have the time required to deal with this problem by this weekend.
I'm
going
to try to get rid of each of the identities I have now and import
the
messages I need to files for safe keeping. Then I will make new
identities,
as recommended. If the identities I have now are so corrupt that I'm
having
this much trouble how will I be able to keep my new identities from
becoming
corrupt if I don't know what's causing them to become corrupt? Is
there a
way to find out what the cause is? I know very little about the
workings
of
computers and how to deal with their problems so please keep it as
simple
as
possible. The help pages I've been referred for the problem with
changing
indenties have not helped me as I do not understand what they're
about,
nor
do I find reference to my problem there. Ever since I downloaded and
installed the latest updates from Microsoft I've had nothing but one
problem
after another with my email program. Microsoft seems to be making
things
worse instead of better and I don't know my way around these
problems.
Any
help I can understand would be appreciated.
Thanks.
