This is usually caused by scanning e-mail, or an anti-spam program.
Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:

I have a recurring problem with OE 6. I had problems receiving new mail and diagnosed the problem. The POP 3 incoming mail server address I entered which was valid was repalaced with the following entry: 127.0.0.1 I correct it but then it goes back to the # again. Very weird to me-any advice on how to fix? Thanks
.
