How to turn off e-mail scanning using Norton:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/pfdocs/2001082921552806?Open

This is a couple years old, so I don't know if it is still accurate. I can't say from experience since I never used Norton.

I know what you have is bought and paid for, but since this (IMHO) program is free, and better, you have nothing to lose by trying it.

I suggest AVG Free:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
or:
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/ww

When prompted, choose Custom Installation and *uncheck* e-mail scanning when you see the option.

Norton, and McAfee, products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I don't know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them.

If you want to get rid of Norton, I does not completely disappear using Add/Remove. Save this for the future if you don't wish to do it now.

To remove Norton completely:

Commonly used Symantec tools:

Using the Norton Removal Tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Removing NAV 2003 and earlier using Rnav2003.exe.

Symantec NIS, NAV and NSW 2004, 2005, 2006 removal

Yes, thanks. But, as I said, both incoming and outgoing scanning ARE
unchecked. However, the Norton dialog that it is scanning still pops up when
I send mail. I have read the Symantec document -- it has nothing new in it.

And check your settings in OE at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties,
Servers. Make sure that the server names match what your ISP says they
should be.
