Re: Emails always have .htm attachments

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Do you use AVG as your antivirus?
If AVG scans incoming mail, it make an attachment that is nothing more than the statement that this
email was scanned and found virus free.
Scanning your incoming email with an antivirus program is not required and in some cases causes OE
to loose mail.
If your antivirus program is kept up-to-date, any virus attached to an email will be kill when it
attempts to act.
Rescanning the email only slows the mail down and both Norton and McAfee are prone to loosing mail
in this scan.

Thanks for your help. Partial success.

First part of your reply - I had already done this with no success.

Second part - I went to the link you mention, carried out the instructions
given there. Now, the attachments themselves have disappeared from my emails,
but the attachment icon is still always appearing in the window where the
incoming messages are listed (not on the header in the individual message
window). Can you be of any further help on this?

After turning off Read All Messages in plain text, you must switch to
another message for it to take effect.

Just to be sure, close OE and restart it and make sure the read in plain
text is still off. If you find turned on again, you may have a
corrupted identity.

If you still have a problem, then see:

For the last 4 days, I think ever since I installed IE7, all emails in
OE6
have .htm attachments. When I - probably foolishly - open those
attachments,
they appear to contain web versions of the email concerned. I have
unchecked
'Read all emails as plain text', but this has no effect. How can I
stop this?
