I apologize that I seem to be talking mostly to myself but in case anyone
else is interested, I was able to get most my rules off the old disk by
manually editing a previously exported rules.reg file and stuffing (merging)
them into the new registry. I still have not been able to recreate the
group addreses.

Ok, I have made some progress. I find that you can't import a set of
names
directly from a WAB file but must export them to a .TXT file from the old
address book and then import them back into the new address book.
I did that, but I lost all my Group addresses. I still have all the
addresses but I don't look forward to rebuilding all the groups manually.
Can anyone tell me how to recover the groups?
Also, I still have not been able to get my rules, blocked senders, etc.
Since the data is now residing on an external drive (not the boot drive) I
don't know how to access the registry file on the old hard disk.

1) The message rules are stored in the registry. Since you aren't
booting
from that drive, you would need to use a special utility to read the
registry.

2) All identities within a single Windows logon share a common WAB
(Windows Address Book) file. The contacts are keyed to the identities.
There is a section in the WAB for each identity, plus a shared contacts
section. When accessed via OE, you will see the shared contacts, plus
the
contacts for the currently logged identity. You will not see the
contacts
for any other identity.
I'm not sure what VBS script you are talking about.
I'm also not sure what you are attempting to accomplish.

The motherboard on my Dell laptop died (two months out of extended
warranty) so I have temporarily attached the laptop hard disk to my
wife's desktop computer. On her machine's version of OE, I have made an
identity that accesses the external hard drive and I see all my messages
just fine. But, I do have two quesitons.
1. I did not have a chance to export the Message Rules and import them
back into this instance of OE. Is there a way to point to the rules

I had on the laptop?
2. I want to get access to my address book without interfering with my
wife's address book. Her identity is the default but when I use her
machine, I switch to my identity. I downloaded the VBS script from
Tomsterdam and it worked fine for the default address book. I guess the
specific question is can each identity have a separate address book? If
so, please tell me how to do it.
I did search for her address book and opened it independently and I
could
see the two identities. I tried to import my addresses into my folder
and it took a long time, but I didn't see the addresses when I opened OE
again.
