Re: OE6 window doesn't stay closed

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

If you suspect that malicious e-mail is using scripting, then make sure
that OE is set to the Restricted Zone (in OE: Tools, Options, Security).
If needed, then go into IE Tools, Internet Options, Security, select the
Restricted Zone there, then click Custom Level and make sure that
scripting is disabled there.

Mail and news have many separate settings, including enabling the
Preview Pane. It depends on whether you have selected a mail or news
folder as to whose settings you are changing. So having disabled the
Preview Pane while looking at a mail folder and then when you switch to
a newsgroup having the Preview Pane come back would be normal. Disable
the Preview Pane there also to have it disabled in both places.

Finally opted for more e-mail security by going to "View" and
unticking 'show
preview pane', clicked apply, and then ok.

All was well for some hours until I re-opened OE6 (don't recall if
preview
had reappeared/re-opened just then, but 99% sure it didn't), yet as
soon as
I clicked send-receive, I received my usual nuisance recently
recurring spam
e-mail (suspected of malicious scripting, etc.) which seemed only thn
to have
caused my preview window to re-open.

Weirder yet, after either assurung it was still unticked or
re-"un"ticking
the preview box, etc., it preview pain closed until the darned thing
did it
again and reopened, this time just after I'd entered something like
this into
my IE6's URL box;
news://microsoft.public.forum./internet.explorer/outlook.express_6,
etc.

Surprised that the preview box popped open and moreover listed some
300
articles, I didn't immediately see any means of deleting them from my
newsgroup mail box. Luckily simply closing OE6 resulted in them
disappearing.

Don'tcha just love it when it happens to the other guy?

Additionally, had quite a time locating this newsgroup, having failed
to
locate the 'microsoft public forum' by searching MS, MSDN and even
Google for
varing forms of 'microsoft.internet explorer.outlook express_6. And
the only
was I finally got here to post was by 're-applying' for my hotmail
account,
which I had no idea (if indeed) it might have expired. Anyway the
confirmation e-mail's link to here is the only way I found this forum
regardless that I pulled up the 300 or so newsgroup e-mail/msg/posts
in my
OE6. Go figure. On 2nd thought, don't even try, but I did have a
time
getting here.

So any thoughts or known instances of the preview window refusing to
stay
closed and re-opening (seemingly) all by itself? Kinda can undersand
it
opening in the newsgroup scenario, but the spam' e-mail one bothers me
quite
a bit.
